Skardu is a small town located in Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is situated on the bank of Indus River, Indus River becomes wide and still here. Skardu is the largest district of the Northern areas. Baltistan owns some of the highest peaks in the world. Skardu is very popular for its Mountaineering Expeditions. The climate of Skardu is severe in winter season but it’s quite moderate during summers by its mountain settings, and the intense heat of lowland India does not reach it. Temperature vary between a maximum of 27 C and a minimum 08 C in the tourist season of April-to-October and the temperature here drops down to -10 C in the December and January.


The main road route into the Skardu Valley is via Karakorum highway and Skardu Road. As Skardu is usually snowbound during the winter months so, it effects on road transportation. Roads in and out are often blocked due to extended winter period. Skardu airport is operative and deals with daily direct flights from Islamabad.
